Geography of Banjar

Banjar city is filled with 37 Panchayats and 84 Villages , and it is a region of Nagar Panchayat situated in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. There is a main route to reach Banjar, which starts from Bilaspur and Mandi; while, the alternate route moves from the places like the Jalori Pass, Theog, Banjar, and Aani joins the main route at the place called 'Aut'.

The Banjar Valley can be seen in the middle of the Himalayan Range; if traveler moves towards east, the peaks will increase in height, and find Himalayan Range, where peaks will have height of 4500 meters and above. Banjar is located at the longitude of 77.35 degree E and latitude of 31.63 degree N, with an average height of 1962 meters (6436 feet).

Banjar Tehsil is surrounded by many places such as the Seraj Tehsil facing towards South, the Drang Tehsil that points to the North; while the Gohar Tehsil turns to the west, and the Anni Tehsil to the South. Wherein, few other nearby cities to Banjar include the city of Mandi, Hamirpur, Sundarnagar, and Shimla. Apart from these, there are also certain cities like the Chindi, also the Bhuntar, as well as the Rampur, even the Mandi and Narkanda too are the nearby Important tourist destinations to see.

Flora and Fauna in Banjar

Banjar is a blessed city with a beautiful flora and fauna. As per the survey of flora, there are around 832 plants species which cover 26% of the total flora of Himachal Pradesh. That means, 616 plant species in Banjar valley only. This Wildlife Park (Himalayan National Park), has several habitats to explore from bush forest of Oak, as well as the Conifer and Bamboo; even a gentle alpine meadows can be seen; and apart from this, Banjar, constitutes flowing rivers to great alpine glaciers.

Flora and Fauna

The Banjar' s Himalayan National Park, includes variety of animals such as snow leopards, goral, Western Tragopan, serow, black bears, tahr, and so on. Thus, this park has become a great geographical diversity in the flora and fauna.

Climate in Banjar

According to the Banjar Climate survey, the September is considered as the driest month with 18 mm, and the average annual rainfall is 1565 mm. And there also lies the difference in precipitation, between the driest and the wettest month, which is 253 mm. While the month of October depicts the warmest month with an average of 28.2 degree Celcius, and the average annual temperature is said to be 27.2 degree Celcius. Wherein, the average temperature in the month of July, is 26.4 degree Celcius, which is the lowest average temperature in the whole year. While, the average temperatures differ throughout the year by 1.8 degree Celcius.

The monthly precipitation of Banjar in mm includes - in January the precipitation in mm is 3; and February, it is 6; while, the precipitation in march will be 13; and in April, its 6; May it will be 4; wherein, July month's precipitation, it is 18; and in the month of august, it will be 22; during September, rainfall is 24; if you look for precipitation in October, it is simply 4; while, in November, the precipitation is zero; and in the December month, the precipitation is just 4. That means, average rainfall days throughout the year is just 9 mm in a month.

Population in Banjar

As per the records of 2001 census, it was said that, the Banjar had a population of 1262. Among which, males have population of 55%, and females have 45%. While, an average literacy rate of Banjar is counted as 84%, which is greater than the national average of 59.5% (89% male literates and 78% of female literates respectively).
